I recently acquired a 2011 Mexi Blacktop Tele HH. Nice guitar, but from the outset the tone control wasn't working properly, all of the action was between 0-3 with nothing across the rest of the travel. Common 'solutions', replace tone control with better quality one, did that, no change. Replace tone cap, done, no change.

I have the Player HH with maple in Tidepool. Never owned one of the others, but have played them in stores. To me the pickups in the new Players Series HH are more dynamic, a littler sweeter. If you prefer rosewood boards, that would be a benefit of getting a used Blacktop, maybe swap out the pickups.

So, it seems many of us Blacktop Tele owners agree that the bridge that comes on that guitar feels quite cheap and substandard. I have been looking around the net for a replacement, and think I am going to with a Hipshot hardtail.

I suspect that those guitars were meant for guys who want a heavily distorted hot sound, and that's fine, but it just didn't work for me. The workmanship, finish, etc. was fine.
